Good BBQ Mount Vernon, Texas

I had dinner at the Texas Bar-B-Que Corral. Very good place. I got a load out of Sikeston, MO yesterday. It delivered to Clarksville TX this morning. I came the 35 miles south to I-30 here in Mount Vernon Texas this afternoon. I'm in between Dallas and Texarcana closer to Texarcana. This will be a good test of my new carrier. It has been slow and this can be a tough freight area for us expediters. I hope they find me something soon I will have to drive a long way to get to a better freight area. Oh well maybe tomorrow.

Following are a few pics of my trip and eating yesterday. Who's getting my 20 dollars, because I've no chance of winning my familys biggest loser contest.

Cotton Field I-55 Near Missouri-Arkansas Line

The rectangular boxes you see to the left and behind the shed are bails of harvested cotton

Zoomed in on Cotton Bail

1 field had over 50 of these bails

Cotton Picking Time

I saw lots of Cotton fields in Southern Missouri and into Arkansas. These bails are really big probably could fit 2 in a 53ft semi trailer.

Lambert's Cafe The home of throwed rolls

I saw a special on this place on the food network, Diners Drive Inns and Dives I think. You may wonder what they mean by throwed rolls. Well it is actually what it sounds like. They throw rolls at you! A guy goes around kind of yelling Rolls not overly loud but loud enough for everyone to hear. If you raise your hand he throws you one. My 1st one was a nice toss from 6 or 10 feet. Well I thought it would be funny to raise my hand when he was way across the dining area. Well he must be used to it cause he threw a fastball about 50 feet right on target. I caught it but it got kind of smashed. Then he threw another fastball I had to reach a little higher and I caught that one too. I didn't realize he was throwing to the booth behind me. So I was 2 for 2 with an interception. The food was really good with huge portions and my bill with a quart of iced tea was only 14.50. I didn't order a quart, you order a drink there and they bring you a quart. Another thing they do that is really neat is passerbys. What they do is they just walk up with more food in a big pot and ask you if you want some. They came around with fried zuchini, fried potatoes(they were awesome) macaroni and tomatoes(really good too) and white beans (didn't get those). Also if you want a passerby item they don't seem to hear you when you say a little. They give you way too much. All in all this was one of the best meals and the most fun. I've had at a restaurant in a long time, maybe ever.
If you ever get near Sikeston Missouri on I-55 try them out!

The roll thrower and sorgham guys

Posted by Picasa

I caught 3 rolls, well 2 catches and 1 interception

They are really good, as soon as you catch one they come around and offer sweet sorgham its like molasses. they dip it out of a can on a stick with a spool like you'd dip into honey.

I ordered the BBQ Pork Steak

The waiter said it looked small so they brought me two. They were very good but one was plenty big. Its hard to tell in the picture but that is a really big skillet 12-14 inches across I'd guess.

One Tired Cat

I got home from New Jersey on Tuesday morning and left again Wednesday Morning. It was good to see Kathy and Nicole but Kitty Girl might have been just as happy as them to see me. I had to wait in New Jersey last weekend. Monday I got a load from Connecticut to Hamtramck Michigan. Wednesday I got a load from Sterling heights Mi to here in Kansas City. I'm getting ready to move over to St. Louis area. I'm 2nd in line here (I've been 2nd all day they couldn't get the 1st guy out today) I figure better to be 1st in line in St. Louis rather than 2nd in KC.

On my way to Trenton New Jersey

I just got a load from Indy- Trenton Gotta Run

Magnum Express Inc.

What a slogan! On Time On purpose? I really have no idea what they are trying to say here. it is better than Delivered Late Accidently, I guess.

I got a few days at home from Saturday eve-until Wed afternoon. I didn't have any luck getting a load out of Avon Lake, Ohio. I deadheaded the 150 miles home Saturday.I had a nice weekend at home with Kathy, Nicole Kitty Girl and the squirrels. I'm in Indianapolis right now waiting for a load out. I picked one up yesterday going from Auburn Hills Michigan to Plainfield Indiana. I did have one little wrench in the works on this one though. My dispatch said I had to be at the drop between 515-530am, after arriving I find out that they don't open receiving until 6am, no big deal just 45 min. When I get in a 6am I find out I have an 11am appointment. I call dispatch and they confirm that my appointment is for 11am, go figure. I am not really mad it just irks me when my time is not valued by others. I wonder how many other jobs there are where they tell you to be somewhere at 515am and you don't start for 5 hours and 45 min. Just wait for free. Possibly dispatch had hoped they would take me earlier, that is quite understandable. There's a good chance I would have still came earlier, but jeez give me proper information.

What Smells Like Crap? Ohh it is Columbus home of the Buckeyes I'm afraid we may be overmatched this year. Lets ruin their year GO BLUE!

Hello from Avon Lake ,Ohio. I got a load from Brownsville,TX to Here in Avon Lake. I picked it up Wednesday and delivered yesterday afternoon (Friday). Pretty uneventful trip, I broke the 1,650 miles into 3 drives averaging about 550 each. It's early Saturday morning if I don't get any loads by noon or so I'll drive the 150 back home. More money would be nice but a few days at home would be even better. I'm letting fate handle it. Will I be home today or on my way somewhere else? Tune in tomorrow same bat time same bat station! So Long from Ohio.

Going to bed at the Edinburg, Texas Flying J

Edinburgh is just North of McAllen in Southeast Texas. I delivered in Laredo this morning. When I called into dispatch after I was done they informed me that I was 3rd or 4th in line for loads out of Laredo. I asked if they had anyone down in McAllen, they said no so I headed down here (155 miles), about as good an area as laredo but I moved up to 1st in line. No luck today, although I had a few chances one to Kansas City one to Ohio and one that was a round trip that would have brought me back here on Wednesday. Maybe tomorrow I'll get rolling again. Good Night All.

I was sitting in line waiting for the Receiver in Laredo to open this morning. I was just finishing my morning coffee and watching this little bird's morning routine. I was just thinking what a nice peaceful morning it was, then along comes this Dumb Shit Cowboy to make a fuss. People seem to complain about all the Mexicans in South Texas, But in my experiences they can be much nicer than some of the Texans. Story to follow.

A Black Guy, A Mexican Guy, and a Dumbass Cowboy Wannabee

After waiting over an hour for the place in Laredo to open the gate, (I was sitting 3rd in line) This Ass in the Cowboy hat came up to my truck. His first words after walking up to my window were "So you guys just cut right in line eh" I said "Pardon Me Tex, but I've been sitting here for over an hour". The Mexican guy was 1st in line and the black guy was 2nd. He said that he and the 2 trucks in front of him had been waiting since last night. He was parked across the street and down about 40 yards. He said they were over there so they could turn left in because right turns are difficult. I told him if he can get the 2 guys in front of me to agree to back out too, I would back up and let them 3 guys go. Well I guess he tried his rude antics with them to no avail. Then he muttered something and moseyed back to his truck. I would of felt bad for him if he wasn't such an ass. Maybe he should run for Governor (they elect any retarded ass here). I mean how were we to know that they were waiting for the same place as us. This area in Laredo is lined with Shipping companies. Also all 3 of them were in their bunks sleeping when we pulled up. So like the saying says "If you snooze you lose".

I-10 East of Biloxi Mississippi

I passed this really bad rollover accident Saturday, on my way to Laredo. I hope everyone is ok. It looked really bad they had the Eastbound side shut down with a Med Chopper on Freeway. There were stretchers out in the median and they were treating people right there. I guess they were getting them stablized enough to transport.
