West bound in Nevada I-80 I think

Sorry that I have been neglecting my blog for so long. I have just posted over 50 pics to try and make amends to my loyal smattering of readers. I am sitting here enjoying some Panera coffee, bagel and free wifi in rainy Rocklin, California. It is a suburb Of Sacramento just a few miles NE. I took a load from Michigan to Denver a week or so ago and it followed with a load from SW Nebraska (Gering) to here in Rocklin.
This trip, I drove much of the same path as the famous or infamous Donner family who traveled this route in 1846-47. I arrived in Gering to pick up my load with some time to kill. I was thinking that I had never ran I-80 west of Reno before and kinda remember some of the Donner's party woes and that they had eaten some who died along the way, but not much else. I decided to read some about them and found this rather lengthy article taken mostly from a journal of one who lived it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party
It is a very interesting read, it left quite an impression on me. Of the 87-90 who started only 48 made it alive! My thoughts went to those people quite often as I drove the 1,165 miles here. Donners pass (Truckee, CA) is a pretty wicked drive in my truck. I cannot fathom what it would be like to try and clear a path for wagons and Oxen. Even before they got there they had to deal with numerous mountains gorges and deserts including the great salt flats/desert. Which is really cool and twice now I have been through it and it was just too dark to get any decent pics.

Take care and enjoy the pics- and especially you Michelle!

To Stewart Hawk, my friend I will think of you the next time a hostess asks for my party name when waiting for a table he told me he usually uses the name Donner just to hear them call out Donner Party of 4. Maybe I'll start using the name Tupperware hehe or maybe Pity. That would be great if I was alone, I can hear it now Pity party of one, Pity party of one.
